Demo against police

SAHIWAL, Sept 25: Hundreds of female residents of Wapda Colony demonstrated outside the court of the district & sessions judge for the release of five men picked by the area police. They said they feared police would kill those detained in a fake encounter.

Ghulam Mohiuddin said his brother Ghulam Rasool and his four colleagues were going to work on Sept 21 when SI Rao Naseem Akhtar arrested them and locked them in the police station. He said Ghulam Rasool was taken to an unknown place after his health deteriorated because of police torture, while his colleagues Ghulam Qadir, Sarfraz, Ashraf and Iqbal were taken to a different place. Earlier, the LHC had ordered registration of a case against the SI for in the illegal detentions case. On Tuesday, the judge also told the DPO to take action against the police official. — Correspondent
