KARACHI: MQM activist convicted of killing Haqiqi man

KARACHI, Sept 25: The Additional District and Sessions Judge-I, East, Abdur Rehman Bhatti, on Tuesday awarded 25-year rigorous imprisonment to Syed Naseer Alam, son of Nazeer Alam, for killing Nasir Shah, alias Chingari, on Jan 29, 2002.
According to the prosecution, the convict belonged to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement while the victim belonged to the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi).
The two men had some political differences and the convict had opened fire on Nasir Shah in the limits of the Shah Faisal police station. Nasir Shah subsequently died from his wounds.
An unidentified co-accused is still at large.
The police had registered a case (FIR No 30/02) under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on Naseer Alam. In case of non-payment, he will have to undergo an additional two years of imprisonment.
