KARACHI: Low gas pressure problem hits many parts of city
KARACHI, Sept 25: Residents of many areas of the metropolis have been complaining of low gas pressure which, they maintain, badly disturbs their Sehri and Iftar arrangements.
Sui gas consumers in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauher, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Korangi, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony and parts of Azizabad, Liaquatabad and Nazimabad areas say they have been experiencing the problem for a couple of days. They also complain of a brief breakdown of gas supply to their households which ultimately results in geysers going off. Many of the complainants are residents of flats and apartments.
Nusrat Jehan, a resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block 4, said she faced the problem on Monday while preparing food for Sehri. “I had to ignite my stove repeatedly as low pressure extinguished the flame again and again. The geyser also did not work properly and I had to turn its pilot burner on twice,” she added.
A housewife living in Korangi Quarters also spoke of the same problem she faced in the afternoon on Monday while preparing food for Iftar.
“I don’t know how many times I had to light the burners. I had to prepare many things in a big quantity for our joint family having many members and this problem exhausted me,” she said.
Bashir, owner of a sweetmeat shop in Liaquatabad, said that low gas pressure for a couple of days was badly affecting his business as burners of his commercial stoves failed to produce the required heat to produce items in a big quantity for sale at Iftar time.
A large number of people from different localities of the affected areas kept calling the APP agency to find out the reasons for the sudden drop in gas pressure since Sunday night.
They said that the SSGC’s telephones meant for registering complaints were out of order since the PTCL cables had been damaged during the construction work being carried out by the city government at Hasan Square.
Meanwhile, an official of the SSGC said on Tuesday that the department concerned of the company was constantly monitoring the gas pressure situation in the city. He acknowledged that the gas pressure might have dropped during the peak hours at Sehri and Iftar times due to extra load usually recorded during Ramazan.
He said the SSGC would ensure extra feeding during the peak hours to address the problem.—APP
