Shoaib Akhtar hails team

LAHORE, Sept 24: Pakistan’s controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, slightly disappointed by his team’s defeat in the Twenty20 World Championship final on Monday, hailed their fine overall show in the Cup and said both the teams provided tremendous fun for the fans of the game around the world in the nail-biting final.

Talking to Dawn here on Monday soon after Pakistan’s loss to India at Johannesburg, Shoaib said Pakistan played commendable cricket in the tournament and came so near to winning it due to team effort.

“Playing the final is also a big achievement and credit goes to all the boys, who made it possible to play this great final after a long time,” he said. “I believe this performance will help the Pakistan team to gain confidence and produce better results during the home series against South Africa.”

Shoaib is likely to miss the home series, though, since he would be facing an inquiry over Mohammad Asif bat-hitting incident.
