KARACHI : Surplus sugar mills staff to get jobs soon
KARACHI, Sept 24: Sindh Health Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed on Monday assured that all surplus employees of the privatised Dadu and Thatta sugar mills will be given jobs before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Speaking at a ceremony during which 56 of these jobless individuals were given letters of induction into the provincial health department, he said all 800 surplus workers would be accommodated in provincial government departments.
He said 56 new inductees had been accommodated in grade five to 15 posts. Academic qualifications of these were said to range from matriculation to masters. Around 400 of the former employees of the two sugar mills were already adjusted in grade one to four in different departments a few months back.
“Summaries for placement of the remaining staff have also been approved by the chief minister,” the minister said, assuring that these cases would be adjusted in the next few days after fulfilling necessary formalities. In this regard, he referred to 62 highly qualified individuals who had been recommended to be accommodated in grade 16 to grade 19 posts in the provincial government departments before Eid.
It was mentioned that 800 employees were facing hardships following the privatisation of Dadu and Thatta sugar mills. According to the understanding extended by the government, they were to be accommodated in the public sector after the privatisation. The commitment, however, could not be honoured during the last decade.
Mr Ahmed said the government was fully committed to the cause of the public.
On behalf of the employees inducted in grade one to four, Bhai Khan apprised the minister that EDOs in Larkana and Dadu had failed to hand over the salary to the inductees.—APP
