TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 23: City police raided a shop on Saturday night on Shorkot Road outside the timber market and arrested five people for gambling on a 20/20 cricket match.

Police received information that dozens of people were gambling on Pakistan-Newzeland match at Munawar Husain’s shop. Most of the gamblers managed their escape during the raid.

However, the police arrested shopkeeper Munawar, Ihsan, Khadim Husain and Iqbal and sent them behind the bars after registration of a case under section 294 of the PPC against them.

Police took into custody a TV set and a register containing record of the gambling besides cash in hundreds.

POLICE FAILURE: City police have allegedly failed to find clue to any of the theft and dacoity incidents which took place during the last two weeks and seems to be reluctant to register cases in this regard.

Reports said thieves had taken away cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth over Rs1 million from the house of Dr Kashif Rashid Butt of British Pakistanis Foundation Trust Hospital in Mustafaabad locality.

In Low Income Housing Colony No.1, dacoits had looted the clinic of Dr Azra Rehman, taking away cash and other valuables. About eight motorcycles were lifted from different parts of the city.
