KARACHI, Sept 23: Many of the major thoroughfares in the Lyari and Saddar towns are in a dilapidated condition, causing immense difficulties not only to the motorists but also to pedestrians.
In Lyari Town, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Road, Shah Waliullah Road, Mir Mohammad Baloch Road, a major portion of Napier Road, D.D. Chaudhry Road are in a bad shape whereas the roads that fall under the jurisdiction of Saddar Town include Outram Road, Dr Ziauddin Road (from Spencer’s building to Pakistan Chowk), Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road, Daudpota Road and portions of Preedy Street, Mohammad Bin Qasim Road, Din Mohammad Wafai Road and Shahrah-i-Iraq.
Overflowing gutters and heaps of garbage have rendered most of these roads impassable and created an unhygienic environment in the surrounding areas.
Residents of Lyari complained that they had been facing great difficulties as different portions of both the main roads of their locality – Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and Shah Waliullah roads – which ran parallel to each other had been lying dug up since long, besides sewage gushing out from choked sewers and gutters remained accumulated at various places of the roads.
They said that Mir Mohammad Baloch Road which leads to Chakiwara had not only developed craters but one could see garbage strewn all over the road while the open plot where a super Khadda Market had been planned long ago had turned into garbage dumping ground.
Most of the important roads in Saddar Town are in a similar state. Mir Karam Ali Talpur and Daudpota roads have developed craters and potholes.
