ISLAMABAD, Sept 22: A private citizen on Saturday requested the Supreme Court to order a stay of the process of presidential election scheduled for Oct 6 till a ruling by a nine-member bench of the court on the President to Hold Another Office Act, 2004.

Shahid Orakzai, whose plea against the holding of two offices by Gen Pervez Musharraf is also among the petitions being heard by the nine-member Supreme Court bench, filed an application in the apex court saying Gen Musharraf had already made a statement in the court about his intention to quit as the Chief of Army Staff after re-election as president. Mr Orakzai said the CEC might not be aware of the fact that the only legal instrument that justified the holding of two offices by the president was the dual office act, which had already been challenged in the Supreme Court.
