DFM beat hosts in KG cricket


KARACHI, Sept 22: Dewan Farooq Motors (DFM) pulled off a 25-run win over Karachi Gymkhana in a low-scoring fixture of the 22nd Karachi Gymkhana Tapal Trophy Ramazan Cricket Festival at the KG Ground on Saturday.

Batting first, DFM were all out for 121 at the start of the final over. Waqas Haroon stood out with a 39-ball innings of 50 that featured three sixes and one four.

Off-spinner Farhan Arif (3-25) and slow left-armer Imran Afzal (3-27) were the pick of the Karachi Gymkhana’s bowlers.

The hosts, however, lost wickets at regular intervals until they were eventually dismissed for 97 in the 19th over. Off-spinner Nasir Awais claimed three for 22, but it was Arshad Azam’s brilliant catching in the field that turned the match in DFM’s favour. Arshad, who held four catches, was declared the joint Man-of-the-Match with Waqas Haroon.

Meanwhile, Qasim CC also recorded a 25-run victory against Factdate Engg in a match played on Friday.

Umar Ahmed shone for the winners with 41 and figures of two for 34 with his off-spin. He shared the Man-of-the-Match award with Kashif Hanif who top-scored for the losers with a 37-ball 52.
