Police accused of siding with killers

BAHAWALPUR, Sept 22: A girl has threatened committing self-immolation along with her mother and brothers in front of the Governor’s House in Lahore on Eidul Fitr if alleged murderers of her father are not arrested by the Bahawalpur police.

Samina Kausar’s father Muhammad Boota of Chak 29-BC was murdered on July 2 over a property row, but the local police were allegedly patronising the suspects instead of arresting them.

Flanked by her mother and brothers, Samina told reporters on Friday that Amjad, Tahir, Ghulam Mustafa, Shabeer and others kidnapped her father over a property feud and later killed him to snatch the disputed property.

She alleged the suspects were not being arrested despite the registration of a case.

She alleged police inspector Khuda Bakhsh tortured her mother, Zubeda, to stop from pursuing the case while head-constable Boota was also patronising the suspects.

Samina said she also tried to meet the chief justice of Pakistan in Islamabad but to no avail. However, she said, her application was handed over to the Supreme Court’s registrar.

Samina said her family approached police high-ups but they were indifferent.

She appealed to the president and the prime minister to provide her justice before Eidul Fitr otherwise she and her family members would commit self-immolation in front of the Governor’s House.
