LAHORE, Sept 22: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) have handed over the body of a Pakistani, who was killed by the firing of BSF officials in Pakistani boundary on Sept 19, to Pakistan Rangers at Kasur Border on Saturday.

According to a press note issued by the Rangers Headquarters, Riaz Ahmed and two other residents of Behramwali village were present with their cattle near Zero Line at Kanganpur, Pakistani, and Fazlik, Indian sectors, when BSF officials opened fire on them in violation of border rules, killing Riaz on the spot. The other two men, however, managed to escape.

The BSF officials entered Pakistani side of the boundary again by violating the border and dragged Riaz’s body into their territory.

According to the press note, Pakistan Rangers took serious note of the border violation and indiscriminate firing on innocent Pakistani citizens and approached the sector commander of Indian BSF. An emergency meeting held between the two commanders at Zero Line at Kasur Border where Pakistani officials lodged their protest and finally the BSF officials handed over Riaz’s body to Pakistani officials on Saturday. The Rangers officials later handed over Riaz’s body his family for burial.

Pakistan Rangers have termed the incident a violation of ongoing series of bilateral meetings between the border security forces of two countries.
