Balochistan accidents leave 22 dead

QUETTA, Sept 21: At least 22 people were killed and 12 others injured in two accidents in Balochistan on Friday.

According to police, 16 people were killed and five injured when a passenger wagon collided with a truck of security forces near Nasi in Qila Saifullah. The truck was carrying personnel of the Zhob Militia, a wing of the Frontier Corps.

“Fourteen people were killed when the wagon overturned,” police officials said, adding that two more died in the Nasi hospital.

Police said the accident occurred after the truck’s tie-rod had broken.

They said that the wagon was completely destroyed and bodies of the victims were taken out after cutting through the wrecked remains of the vehicle.

Names of the deceased are: Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Hanif, Mohammad Essa, Chandro, Ehsanullah, Mohammad Ayaz, Mohammad Qasim, Allahyar, Jan Mohammad and Umarzai. Six of the victims could not be identified.

The accident involved a bus which fell into a deep ditch near Dureji in Lasbela district after colliding with a truck. Six more people were killed. The deceased were going to the shrine of Shah Noorani. Seven passengers were injured.

Police removed the bodies to the Jam Mir Ghulam Qadir Hospital in Lasbela.

Three of the injured were admitted to a hospital in Hub and four were taken to Karachi because of the seriousness of their injuries.
