HYDERABAD, Sept 21: The farmers of the Qazi Ahmed area staged a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Friday against the acute shortage of irrigation water in Malwa Shakh and Jadoo minor canals.

They carried placards and banners and raised slogans against the irrigation officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Niaz Ali Khoso, Kashif Khoso and Nizam Khoso complained that the tail-end growers of Malwa Shakh and Jadoo minor have been facing acute shortage of irrigation water for the last 15 years but the irrigation officials have failed to redress their grievances.

They said due to shortage of water, thousands of acres of land have been rendered barren.

They alleged that water was being sold out to the big land holders by the irrigation department.

They demanded action against the SDO Qazi Ahmed-I and the XEN concerned. They further demanded that the supply of irrigation water should be ensured to the tail-end growers.

ROTATION: The chief-engineer irrigation Kotri Barrage Hyderabad has informed that the Right Side Canal i.e. K.B. Feeder will be closed up to Sept 22 and the Left Bank Canals of Kotri Barrage i.e Akram Wah, New Fuleli and Old Fuleli will be closed from Sept 23 to 25 for scouring operation of Kotri Barrage.

DRINKING WATER: Director-general HDA Altaf Memon has directed Wasa officials to supply drinking water through tankers to the people of City, Qasimabad and Latifabad talukas where supply was affected due to technical reasons or power outages.

He issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting at his office here on Friday.
