‘Too many law officers’

Published September 21, 2007

LAHORE, Sept 20: Justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi of the Lahore High Court on Thursday asked the Punjab law secretary to submit a report within four weeks on the appointment of 50 law officers on a petition seeking reduction in their strength.

The judge also asked the Punjab advocate-general to assist the court in the matter on the next date of hearing.

Petitioner Mohammad Ashraf Khan advocate said highly incompetent lawyers from Gujarat and Chakwal were appointed as law officers, which also put unnecessary burden on the national exchequer.

He said such a large platoon of law officers was not needed because they were required to assist only 31 LHC judges.
