Lahore Ravi, Karachi Urban triumph in U-19 cricket

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 19: Lahore Ravi and Karachi Urban scored identical wins by nine wickets in the second round of the three-day PCB Inter-regional Under-19 Cricket Championship on Wednesday.

Lahore Ravi, as expected, wasted little time in defeating Karachi Harbour at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground. Needing 65, the visitors romped to victory in just 7.1 overs.

Ahmed Shahzad, who stroked 106 in the first innings, was once again in great form as he blasted 10 fours and one six in an unbeaten 49 off 21 deliveries.

Earlier, off-spinner Salman Afzal claimed four for 65 in 18 overs as Karachi Harbour were all out for 171 after starting the final day at 98 for five in their second innings.

Karachi Urban also ran out easy winners in their match against Quetta at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta. The home side managed 278 in the second innings largely due a fifth-wicket stand of 134 between skipper Majid Hussain (74 off 179 balls, 10 fours) and Ataullah (76 off 109 balls, 12 fours and two sixes).

Leg-spinner Shahzaib Khan completed a 10-wicket haul in the match. Having picked up six for 27 in the first innings, the talented spinner took four for 81 to finish with 10 for 108.

Requiring 71 for victory, Karachi Urban skipper Shan Masood was in punishing mood as he smashed an unbeaten 56 off only 20 balls. He slammed eight fours and three sixes.

Opener Asif Khan’s undefeated 139 against Hyderabad was the highlight of the final day’s play at the Sindh University Ground in Jamshoro where Lahore Shalimar declared their second innings at 218 for one. Asif’s 150-ball innings contained 16 fours and three sixes.

Hyderabad escaped defeat by making 193 for six in the second innings after Sharjeel Khan (58) and Azeem Ghumman (84).
