PESHAWAR, Sept 19: Students granted admission in Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, in 2006 against seats reserved for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas have been waiting for the commencement of classes for the past one year.

According to official documents, 12 students from Fata appeared in the entry test and the joint admission committee nominated them for various disciplines against the reserved seats for the 2006-7 academic year.

Irfanullah of Bajaur Agency said he and other students had been waiting for the classes to commence for the past one year.

He said the college management had told the students that their classes could not commence unless the Higher Education Commission gave the institution degree awarding status.

The college was earlier affiliated with the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology.

The affected students appealed to NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai to ensure commencement of classes at Dawood College at the earliest or give them admission in some other professional institution in the province.
