HYDERABAD: Court orders FIR against policemen: Fake encounter

HYDERABAD, Sept 19: In-charge sessions judge Hyderabad here Wednesday directed the Bhitai Nagar police officials to lodge an FIR of complainant Barkat Brohi, the brother of Fateh Mohammad Brohi who had been killed in an alleged fake police encounter, against the policemen of Market police station if a cognisable offence is made out.

Barkat Brohi had moved the court under sections 22-A and 22-B Cr.PC through Khuda Bux Leghari advocate, stating that his brother was kidnapped on September 10 by the policemen of Market police station from the Bhitai Nagar police jurisdiction and later killed in a fake encounter.

The complainant said that they ran business of transport and the police were forcing them to pay illegal gratification which they had refused. As a result of which, he said, police started nursing grudge against them.

He said that two motorcycles of deceased Brohi were also taken away by the police and added that on the day of the killing, Rs19,000 cash and a mobile phone worth Rs14,000 were in the possession of Fateh Mohammad, who was scheduled to marry on September 20. He said that he had come to know through TV channels that Fateh Mohammad had been gunned down in the Market police area by the policemen in a managed encounter.He said that police enmity was quite reflective from the fact that prosecution witness in a motorcycle robbery case had told the court that that he had nominated Fateh Mohammad at the instance of the police otherwise he had lodged the complaint against an unidentified man. He said that the police had refused to lodge their FIR and initially did not allow them to see the body in Civil Hospital.

Policeman dies: A police constable, Shaukat Khattak came under the wheels of a speedy truck in Hussainabad area here on Wednesday as the deceased, along with an ASI was chasing the truck driver for violating the traffic signal.

DPO Hyderabad Imran Shaukat said that truck driver had violated traffic signal at Jan-e-Alam chowk and deceased policeman who was standing there chased him along with ASI Naseem. The truck driver didn’t stop there and kept accelerating the speed of truck.The policemen also followed him and tried to block his way in Hussainabad area near an under construction petrol pump but the driver over-ran them, causing serious injuries to Khattak and ASI Naseem. They were taken to hospital where Khattak succumbed to his injuries while Naseem was admitted.

Truck driver escaped from the scene while the truck has been impounded by police. Khattak was resident of Sialkot. His funeral prayer was offered at the police headquarters which was attended by DPO and other police officers.

ELECTROCUTED: One Arshad Iqbal died of electrocution in Tando Jehanian in the area of Cantonment police station here on Wednesday.
