Apropos the caption of a photograph published in Dawn’s Sept 18 issue, the Karachi Port Trust has clarified that “the photograph was taken relating to the timber pond area which acts as a storage of imported logs. The logs are stacked in timber pond area after being offloaded from ships. Recently, logs weighing 6,950 metric tons, shown in the photograph were unloaded at Berth No 18 of Karachi Port on September 17, 2007 from MV Imperial. The logs are tied together and towed through the channel towards Chinna Creek (Timber Pond stacking area). Thereafter they are loaded on trucks.
“It be noted that mangroves stems are smaller and the wooden logs shown in the photograph are imported logs which have no connection with the cutting and sawing of mangroves as mentioned in your reputed daily.”
