KARACHI, Sept 19: The Special Anti-corruption Judge, Sindh, Syed Gul Munir Shah, on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for five policemen accused of demanding Rs200,000 bribe for the recovery of a missing man, Sajid Hussain.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment had registered a case under Section-167/34 R/W 5(2) on the complaint of Rasheeda Begum, sister of the victim, who stated that his brother had gone missing about five months back and there had been no clue to his whereabouts since then.

She alleged that on April 18, 2007, the accused, SI Fida Leghari of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), ASI Sabir of the ACLC, SI Rauf of the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station, ASI Akhtar and head-constable Abdul Ghafoor came to her residence in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and offered recovery of her brother if she paid to them an amount of Rs200,000.

The complainant claimed that during the ensuing negotiations, the policemen agreed to reduce the amount by 50 per cent.

She further stated that the policemen had assured her that Sajid Hussain was alive and well, and that he would return home once she made the payment.

She told the judge that instead of paying the bribe, she lodged a case with the Anti-corruption Establishment against the policemen.

The court directed the authorities concerned to get the accused arrested and produ-ce them in court at the earliest.
