KARACHI: Mufti Ateeq’s killing case adjourned

KARACHI, Sept 19: The Anti-terrorism Court-V on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a case pertaining to the assassination of Mufti Ateequr Rehman and his brother, Irshad, till Sept 20, when statements of the prosecution witnesses in the case would be recorded.

The Mufti and his brother were assassinated by unknown assailants in the limits of the Preedy police station on June 23, 2005. Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-V is conducting the trial.

On Sept 15, the court had recorded statements of three police officials, ASIs Nadeem Haider, Shabbir Ahmed and Raja Masood Ahmed, as prosecution witnesses. Shabbir Ahmed was the duty officer when the incident took place.

The FIR (No.315/05) had been registered at the Preedy police station under Sections 302, 324 and 427/34PPC against the accused, Hammad Raza, and an absconding co-accused, Syed Mohammad Askari.
