POA laments poor working system of federations

By Our Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, Sept 18: The top man of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has expressed his displeasure over the working structures of the National Sports Federations (NSF) which were not being run and governed on professional lines.

“Plans are afoot to improve their administrative, technical and financial systems by circulating improvement guidelines to them soon,” its president Lt Gen Syed Arif Hasan observed.

He said a team would undertake visits of Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, etc., which houses headquarters of the different NSF to install software for proper maintenance of accounts and financial data aimed at educating them on financial aspects.

“The Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) will foot the bill for the software installation and training of concerned persons,” said Arif, who also heads the PST.

He said it was the need of the hour to have paid office secretaries for smooth functioning of the NSF in order to supplement the efforts of elected secretaries.

According to him, POA aims to initially introduce this system in 10 to 15 NSF.

The POA chief said plans are also in hand to introduce National Sports Database (NSD) which envisaged registration of athletes, officials, coaches and medical personnel making them mandatory to fill the form prior to appearing in a sporting event.

To update the NSD, the NSF will have to submit official results of domestic and international events, training camps, coaching courses, clinics, etc within a fortnight.
