Lahore Ravi poised for victory in U-19 cricket

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 18: Lahore Ravi were heading for victory against Karachi Harbour struggled to 98 for five in their second innings in the three-day PCB Inter-regional Under-19 Cricket Championship fixture at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground on Tuesday.

The home side, who began their second knock with a deficit of 107 runs, still need seven runs to avoid innings defeat at close of play on the second day.

Earlier, Lahore Ravi added another 186 to their Monday’s tally of 121-4 before they were all out for 307. Opener Ahmed Shahzad, who resumed at his overnight score of 77, was run out for a splendid 106. His rapid 110-ball innings contained 16 fours and one six.

Leg-spinner Farhad Baig bagged five for 80 in 14.4 expensive overs.

Karachi Urban, meanwhile, were on verge of victory after obtaining a first-innings lead of 207 against Quetta, thanks to fine centuries by Hassan Javed (108 not out off 175 balls, six fours and three sixes) and Haafiz Asad Baig (107 off 189 balls, 13 fours and one six).

The hosts ended the day at 161 for four in their second innings – a recovery of sort after the top four batsmen were back in the hut with 79 on the board. But skipper Majid Hussain (46) and Ataullah (43) stopped the rot with an unbroken stand worth 82 so far.
