Imran Khan preaches democracy

Dawn Report

SAHIWAL, Sept 18: Pakistan cannot survive under a dictatorial rule and democracy is indispensable for the country, says Imran Khan, Tehrik-i-Insaf, while addressing a public meeting at Sahiwal Club on Tuesday.

Mr Khan alleged Gen Pervez Musharraf and Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto were determined to complete an American agenda by declaring patriotic citizens extremists.

He said earlier Gen Musharraf and the National Accountability Bureau had accused Ms Bhutto of transferring Rs100 billion out of the country and now she had been given a no-objection certificate from the Musharraf’s government to come back and the US had awarded her a certificate of liberal leader. He said Pakistan was being run by an imported prime minister and Shaukat Aziz following the directions of the IMF had withdrawn subsidies on fertilizer and seed and imposed General Sales Tax crippling the economy.

Chaudhry Imran Idris, vice president of the Tehrik-i-Insaf, UK chapter, also spoke.

OKARA: Talking to reporters at Okara Bypass, Mr Khan said he was sure that Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his party’s legislators would resign from the assemblies as per a decision by the All Parties Democratic Movement if Gen Musharraf filed his nomination papers for the presidential election. He warned if Maulana Fazl backed away, he would also be exposed like Ms Bhutto.

He said Gen Musharraf was unable to impose martial law.

PTI Punjab chief Ihsan Rashid was also present.
