SAHIWAL, Sept 18: A driving school proprietor and also the chairman of the Pakistan Rajpoot Ittehad was strangled here in wee hours on Tuesday apparently over a property row.

Moeenud Din, who used to claim himself a close aide of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and also a former Sindh chief minister’s adviser, had property feud here. He arrived here from Karachi eight years ago to pursue over a dozen cases pending in local courts.

Moeenud Din established his office-cum-residence on Church Road here and started running Quick Motor Driving School simultaneously from Sahiwal, Lahore and Karachi. His residence happened to be a hub of political activities as local leaders used to get there together in the evenings and debate political developments.

Three unknown assailants stormed Mooenud Din’s office at around 3am on Tuesday and overpowered the security guard. They confined the guard in room and went to Moeenud Din’s bedroom and later strangled him with a piece of cloth. The incident was reported after driving instructors and students came next morning as per their routine and they found Moeenud Din’s body.

Moeenud Din reportedly shifted to his residence on the fateful night at around 1am just two or three hours before he was murdered. He had also withdrawn Rs20,000 from a bank on Monday and the amount was also missing. Police started investigations.
