HYDERABAD: Discrimination alleged

HYDERABAD, Sept 18: The Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party has criticised what it calls discrimination against Sindhi-speaking judges in respect of promotions and has appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, to take notice of the matter.

The party’s chairman Dr Qadir Magsi and senior vice-chairman Dr Abdul Hameed Memon said in a statement that Sindhi employees of all government departments were getting step-motherly treatment. However, they said, discrimination in the judiciary was incomprehensible.

They alleged that Sindhi judges were being treated in a manner that none of them could become chief justice of Sindh High Court. They said that at the time of promotion, they were overlooked despite their clean record, seniority and competence.—Bureau
