KARACHI : Dow varsity to offer MSc in two new courses

KARACHI, Sept 17: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) will soon be offering a two-year MSc programme in diabetes and endocrinology.According to a statement issued here on Monday, the DUHS syndicate recently approved the programme. All those doctors who have graduated and completed one-year house job (six months in medicine compulsory) are eligible for the programme, it adds.

It says that by the end of 2007, 10 candidates will be selected and their classes will be held at the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Ojha campus of the DUHS.

This will be a two-year programme, having four semesters. First two semesters will be in diabetes while the third and fourth semesters will pertain to endocrinology.

Candidates will be required to write 20 cases — six in diabetes, fourteen on the different aspects of endocrinology, and they will be posted on a rotation basis in orthopaedic, gynaecology and paediatrics wards and medical ICU.

Meanwhile, two representatives of the Quality Assurance Agency from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) visited the DUHS to evaluate the performance of the Quality Enhancement Cell of the varsity. The director, Dr M. Abdul Wahid Usmani, briefed them about the various activities of quality assurance and enhancement at the university.
