KARACHI, Sept 16: Favourite five-year-old bay mare Voo Doo Doll lived up to her top billing when she galloped to a facile four-length victory over colt Moon Raker in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The public fancy mare was piloted home by experienced jockey Ghulam Shabbir II in one min 3 2/5 seconds to oblige punters in the first meeting of the holy month of Ramazan.

Five-year-old bay Paidagir finished four lengths behind to settle for third place while Dragon Heart completed the frame.

Voo Doo Doll’s stable-mate three-year-old chestnut colt Sing Sing posted a five lengths victory over mare Closing Argument to present owner Irfan Mehdi and trainer G. Hassan with a double. The even-money joint favourite colt was ridden home by Lahore’s Aamir Pervaiz.

Following two wins on the trot Sing Sing had a dismal run on Sept 2 where he settled for fourth position. Black Jack and On Looker occupied the third and fourth positions.

Backed by connection favourite colt Quince finally claimed his maiden win when he picked up spoils in the opener under rider M. Nasir. He edged bay Sher-i-Awan by six lengths to end the jinx.

They were followed by NYX and Make Millions.

Making amends, favourite chestnut Dr Dre beat the field to reign supreme in the sixth race. He beat Mixed Blessing by two lengths. Choice Of The Day secured third place while Donatello completed the board.

After the race Fahim K, rider of Donatello, lodged a technical objection against Ashiq Ali, rider of The Choice Of The Day, and the authorities reversed the third and fourth positions. After a while they disqualified The Choice Of The Day and his place was given to Priceless.

The punters were of the opinion that The Choice Of The Day’s trainer should have been penalised instead of disqualifying the horse and reversing the order.

Six-year-old bay mare Smiling Face pulled off the first upset of the day outpacing favourite filly Green Rose by one length to win the next race.

Similarly, six-year-old bay Charlie created a stir when he stormed to a four lengths victory over mare Silent Love. Meanwhile, favourite Cape Town had to be content with third place.

The third race of the programme had to be cancelled due to lack of competition after colt Inside Story was withdrawn.
