LARKANA, Sept 16: President of the Sindh chapter of the People’s Party Parliamentarians Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that article 58-2(b) of the Constitution is a sword which will constantly hang over the fate of the assemblies, and pledged his party’s opposition to it.

Speaking at a party meeting and later at a press conference here on Sunday, he said that the PPP would endorse only two portions of the 17th amendment i.e electoral college and increase in women’s seats.

He claimed that ARD was still a big alliance which struggled for restoration of democracy in the country.

He advised the Sindh chief minister not to exceed limits, otherwise he would not be able to find a place to hide.

He said that the PPP had a history of rendering more sacrifices than any other political party for independence of judiciary and on May 12 , many PPP workers laid down their lives.

He said that Ms Benazir Bhutto would be accorded a tumultuous welcome on her arrival at Karachi airport on October 18. Mr Shah said that soon after her arrival, she would undertake a whirlwind tour of Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar and Muzaffarabad.

She would lead the PPP’s election campaign, he said and added that real and true leadership focused on the progress and prosperity of nation.

Criticising the government, he said that it had gifted people with a deteriorating law and order situation, price spiral, unemployment etc.

Leader of opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro said that the PPP had secured 7.8 million votes during the last general election and proved that it was the biggest party in the country.

He appealed the people to vote PPP in the coming general elections so that the constitution of 1973 could be restored in its original shape.
