ISLAMABAD, Sept 16: The local police have arrested 347 persons during a campaign against anti-social elements and recovered huge quantity of illegal arms and ammunitions from their possession.
A spokesman on Sunday said the police had recovered eight kalashnikovs, 33 rifles, 18 guns, 270 pistols, four revolvers, seven carbines, 44 magazines, two hand-grenades, 3,350 rounds, and 17 daggers.
Giving the breakdown, he said the city circle police, comprising Aabpara and Kohsar police stations, arrested 19 persons and recovered two rifles, eight pistols, two revolvers, two magazines and seven daggers from them.
The Margalla and Shalimar police claimed to have arrested 22 people for carrying illegal weapons, adding 19 pistols, 10 magazines, three daggers and 95 rounds were recovered from their possession.
The Industrial Area (I-9) and Sabzi Mandi police said they arrested 54 persons and recovered four rifles, a gun, 51 pistols and 512 rounds from their possession.
The Saddar Circle police, comprising Golra and Tarnol stations, have arrested 70 people and recovered four kalashnikovs, 16 rifles, 55 pistols, a revolver, three carbines, 32 magazines, three daggers and 969 rounds.
The Secretarial Circle police, comprising Secretariat and Bharakahu police stations, arrested 49 persons and recovered six rifles, seven guns, 37 pistols, a carbine and 491 rounds from them.
The Rural Circle police, comprising Shahzad Town and Sihala police, arrested 129 persons and recovered four kalashnikovs, 15 rifles, 10 guns, 100 pistols, three carbines, two hand-grenades, four daggers and 1,029 rounds from them.
