ISLAMABAD, Sept 16: Opposition members belonging to the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) on Saturday submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly Secretariat, seeking discussion on the suicide attack on an army mess in Tarbela Ghazi that killed 20 commandos and injured another 40 on Thursday.

Talking to Dawn, ARD parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi said the adjournment motion had been signed by 10 opposition members belonging to the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML- N).

It had been submitted under Rule 110 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 2007.

Through the motion, the opposition members have expressed their serious concern over the incident. They said the attack at a sensitive and most protected cantonment area has “stunned the common citizens ringing alarm bells about their security.”

The motion further stated that the government’s failure to maintain law and order, and protection of sensitive areas was a matter of national importance and needed to be discussed on the floor of the National Assembly after adjourning its business forthwith.

The motion has been signed by the PPP chief whip in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, secretary-general Raja Pervez Ashraf, information secretary Sherry Rehman, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Naheed Khan, Chaudhry Qamaruz Zaman Kaira, Ghulam Murtaza Satti and Fauzia Wahab, and Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Pervez Malik of the PML-N.
