KHAIRPUR: Bekus Sain’s Urs begins today

KHAIRPUR, Sept 16: The three-day 130th annual Urs of renowned Sufi poet, Faqir Mohammad Mohsin, also known as Bekus Sain, would commence from Monday at his shrine in Rohri.

The Urs would start with spreading a floral wreath on the Sufi’s grave. A Bekus Adabi Conference would be held on the second day at which prominent writers and scholars would read papers on the poetry and contribution of Bekus Sain. A Sufiana musical programme would be held on the third day.

Sufi poets related to Bedil-Bekas shrine regretted that the authorities had made no arrangements for Urs celebrations at the shrine of Bekus Sain.

The authorities had not even cleaned the roads leading towards the Sufi’s shrine.

PRICE HIKE: Prices of various daily-use items witnessed continuous rise on the third day of Ramazan, with flour price increasing from Rs14 to Rs20 per kg, sugar from Rs28 to Rs34 per kg, cooking oil from Rs75 to Rs90 per kg, onion from Rs14 to Rs30 per kg, tomatoes from Rs20 to Rs60 per kg and many other items being sold at double the price of fixed official rates.

A meeting of Citizens Action Committee presided over by Shakir Shah expressed concern that majority of shops had not displayed price lists.

The meeting appealed to the authorities to check the price hike.

POLICEMAN INJURED: A police constable suffered injuries when four persons allegedly belonging to Leghari tribe waylaid him over an old enmity near Banaras Colony on Sunday.

Reports said that four persons attacked him with bricks and sticks Din Mohammad Leghari and left him for dead.

Police arrested Abdul Hameed and Abdul Shakoor Leghari while the injured was admitted to Civil Hospital. People said that the attack was an offshoot of an old enmity between the two groups.

PROTEST: A large number of relatives and villagers continued their protest in Bozdar Wada on the second consecutive day here on Sunday, demanding arrest of the people involved in the murder of Sarfaraz Keerio.

The deceased was a student of Shah Abdul Latif University and was killed in the firing incident on a bus in Karachi about three days ago. They raised slogans against Karachi administration and police for their failure to arrest the attackers.

Comrade Gulsher said that Sarfaraz Keerio, a jobless student had gone to appear in an interview for job but his body was brought home.
