KARACHI: Extension in ban on rickshaws

KARACHI, Sept 16: Movement of two-stroke rickshaws will be further restricted gradually because the air and noise pollution in the city is heightening and affecting people’s health.

This was stated by Sindh Minister for Environment Dr Sagheer Ahmed in a statement issued here on Sunday. He was of the view that the ban on the movement of two-stroke rickshaws on certain major arteries and heavy vehicles on busy roads would help reduce pollution.

He referred to the recently imposed ban on the plying of rickshaws between Sohrab Goth and Tower, covering Shahrah-i-Pakistan, S.M. Taufiq Road and M.A. Jinnah Road, and said the restriction would be extended to other busy thoroughfares, including Sharea Faisal.—Agencies
