FAISALABAD, Sept 15: The local District Bar Association (DBA) burnt an effigy of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday for what it alleged for using foul language against the legal fraternity.
The lawyers assembled outside the bar premises where they have setup a hunger strike camp against the government for not establishing the High Court bench in the district. They later set the MQM chief’s effigy ablaze and raised slogans against him and his party.
The bar members demanded the government register a criminal case against Altaf Hussain.
Bar president Tanvir Randhawa said the MQM chief and the government were hell bent on sabotaging the country’s atmosphere and besieging of the High Court in Karachi was part of that planning.
He said the government should refrain from harassing the judiciary and implement its decisions in letter and spirit. Lawyers will resist any government move of harming the judicial system.
Mr Randhawa said the DBA would also take up the issue of changing the name of Faisalabad because of the Saudi government role in the exile of Nawaz Sharif.
He said the bar’s general house meeting would be held on Monday while a protest rally would also be taken out against the government and the MQM later on.
