Girl prefers immolation to marriage against will

KASUR, Sept 14: A girl committed suicide after her parents set her marriage against her consent in Bulleh Shah Colony in B-Division police precincts on Thursday night.

Nageena’s parents had set her marriage after Ramazan but she was unhappy with the match her parents had selected for her. This took her into depression and on Thursday night, she went to the kitchen, doused herself with kerosene oil and later ended her life by setting herself ablaze when her parents were busy in worshipping. The police started investigations.

LOOTING: At least nine dacoits deprived residents of valuables worth thousands of rupees and shot and injured one who resisted in Maan village in Sadar police jurisdiction on Thursday night.

The dacoits entered the house of Anwar Khan, took the family members on gunpoint and deprived them of Rs108,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs50,000.

Later, they stormed the house of Amjad Khan and fled after collecting Rs25,000 in cash and gold jewellery. Next, they barged into Sarwar’s house and made their way with Rs15,000 in cash and gold jewellery. Finally, they forced their entry into Abdul Rasheed’s house, but he resisted on which the dacoits shot at him before fleeing. A bullet hit Rashid in his leg and he was hospitalised. The Sadar police are investigating.
