Court hands back girl to mother

By Mudassir Raja

RAWALPINDI, Sept 14: A bailiff, appointed by the district and sessions judge, here on Friday recovered a girl from the custody of her father and handed the minor to her mother.

In his report which he submitted with District and Sessions Judge Mian Khadim Hussain, the bailiff, Mirza Faisal, stated that he along with the area police recovered two-year-old Mahnoor Sohail from the house of her father, Sohail Shehzad, at Rahimabad and handed her over to the claimant, Somia Iffat, the girl’s mother.

Ms Iffat in her application, submitted with the district and sessions judge through her advocate Malik Khurram Shahzad, stated that she married Sohail on December 27, 2002. However, after some months her husband’s attitude became antagonistic for no obvious reason.

She said she exhausted all efforts for conciliation but in vain and finally her husband threw her out of his house along with her minor daughter forcing her to stay at her mother’s house.

She said two weeks ago her husband deceitfully took the minor girl away from her and did not return her. Despite several attempts, she could not get her daughter back.

She alleged that her in-laws were hurling death threats at her for her insistence to get her child back.

The judge has asked both parties to appear in court on September 18 for further proceedings.

Meanwhile an additional district and sessions judge (ASJ) directed the station house officer (SHO) of New Town police station to submit his written comments for not registering an FIR on the complaint of a female advocate.

Advocate Azra Perveen and Syed Wajahat Khurram moved an application before ASJ Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed, stating that the SHO New Town did not register FIR against a plaza owner who had allegedly damaged a car and threatened the female lawyer.
