Heirs to seminary teacher invoke SC assistance

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Sept 13: Whereabouts of a seminary teacher, who was picked up allegedly by men of intelligence agencies and police from his house about a week back, are still unknown and heirs have appealed to the Supreme Court chief justice to take a suo motu notice and order for his immediate recovery.

Reports said that Hafiz Qamar Saleem, 21, son of Muhammad Saleem of Lohianwala locality, was a teacher at the seminary on Jinnah Road. About a dozen armed men, four of them in police uniform, entered the house by scaling the boundary wall on Sept 6 and whisked him away.

Heirs searched him at all police stations in and around the city and contacted DIG (operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti in this regard, but to no avail. The family vehemently denied that Saleem had links with any jihadi organization.

TWO KILLED: Two friends were killed while another three sustained injuries in a road accident on Sialkot Road here on Thursday.

Reports said that some friends of Rahwali were going by their car to take dinner at a restaurant. Near Mafiwala village, their speeding vehicle overturned and fell into a ditch along the road while overtaking a truck. Consequently, Hafiz Muhammad Akhtar and Dr Nasir died on the spot while Abid, Mian Nafees and Abbas Chehal suffered injuries. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital where their condition was stated to be serious.

Police removed their bodies to the mortuary for autopsy.

ACQUITTED: The local anti-terrorism court No 2 acquitted 10 accused, including a ruling party MPA, when prosecution failed to prove murder charges against them on Thursday.

According to the prosecution, the accused had killed Pervez Iqbal, Waris Ali, Arshad and Muhammad Boota of Naushera Virkan over a litigation issue on March 4, 2005. The ruling party MPA, Amanat Ali Virk, was also nominated in the FIR.

The judge declared seven accused — Anwar, Chand, Aurangzeb, Hafeez, Ehtesham, Shahid and Abbas — as proclaimed offenders.
