KARACHI, Sept 13: Deputy Convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Dr Farooq Sattar on Thursday accused activists of the Islami Jamiat Talaba of attacking and kidnapping APMSO supporters in the Karachi University.

He criticised what he called ‘political lawyers’ of the Tehrik-i-Insaf, PML (N) and Jamat-i-Islami for attacking MQM’s federal Minister of State Iqbal Mohammad Ali in Chakwal.

Addressing a news conference at Nine Zero, Dr Farooq Sattar, who is also the party’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, alleged that some political and religious parties were resorting to violence and terrorism because of their fears over the mounting support and popularity of the MQM in the country.

He said the attack on the federal minister was also aimed at obstructing the MQM’s way into the Punjab interior.

Shaikh Liaquat Hussain, Mr Anwar Alam and other members of the coordination committee were present on the occasion.

Narrating details of the ‘peace day” function organised by the APMSO in the Arts Lobby of the Karachi University on Wednesday, Dr Sattar said that armed activists of the IJT attacked and opened fire on peaceful and unarmed students.

He alleged that the armed men also beat a girl student of the International Relations department with rifle butt, causing serious injuries to her.

Dr Farooq Sattar also listed names of other students injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, the Mohajir Rabita Council (Pakistan) warned that ‘irresponsible lawyers of the Karachi bar’ attacking representing the government lawyers would have to face the wrath of the people.

In an unsigned press release, the MRCP said that a conspiracy had been hatched to ignite Mohajir-Pathan riots, adding that the conspiracy would be thwarted. It also condemned the murder of Advocate Raja Riaz.
