Shan leads spirited fight-back by Karachi Urban

KARACHI, Sept 11: Skipper Shan Masood led from the front as Karachi Urban staged a fine comeback against Multan on the second day of the three-day PCB Inter-regional Under-19 Cricket Championship match at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground here on Tuesday.

After making 53 in the first innings, Shan was again in the limelight on Tuesday as Karachi Urban closed at 253 for two in their second innings after conceding a slender 21-run lead on the first innings.

Shan and Mohammad Shahzaib Khan put on 195 for the opening stand after Multan were bowled out for 196 in reply to Karachi Urban’s 175.

Shahzaib made 103 off 143 balls with the aid of nine fours and two sixes while Shan fell just two short of the three-figure mark. His 134-ball 98 included eight boundaries and a six.

Earlier, Shan also starred with the ball as he captured four for 27 with his off-spinners. Sanaullah was Multan’s top-scorer with a 118-ball 69, which included nine hits to the fence.

In other matches, Peshawar gained a first-innings advantage of 106 after bowling out Abbottabad for 216, while play was completely washed out in Sargodha where Lahore Ravi were due to resume at 90 for four.

Sialkot reached 159 for six in reply to Lahore Shalimar’s 243 at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. Hyderabad seized control against Quetta after obtaining a lead of 51 runs on the first innings at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta. Mohammad Azeem struck an undefeated 94 in Hyderabad’s 162 for four in the second innings

Rawalpindi took a small lead of 22 runs after making 264 in reply to Islamabad’s 242 in their game at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

At Landhi Gymkhana Ground, Karachi:

KARACHI URBAN 175 in 55 overs (Shan Masood 53; Farhan Ahmed 5-31, Adeel Hanif 4-58) and 253-2 in 51 overs (M. Shahzaib Khan 103, Shan Masood 98); MULTAN 196 in 58.3 overs (Sanaullah 69; Shan Masood 4-27).

At Sports Stadium, Sargodha:

LAHORE RAVI 90-4 in 27 overs v FAISALABAD (no play on second day).

At LCCA Ground, Lahore:

LAHORE SHALIMAR 243 in 68.2 overs (Saad Nasim 85, Qambar Iqbal 41; Nayyar Abbas 4-67); SIALKOT 159-6 in 54 overs (Mohammad Qasim 56).

At Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar:

PESHAWAR 322 in 80.4 overs (Jibran Khan 85, Adil Amin 76, Mohammad Rizwan 61) and 90-3 (Adil Amin 44 not out); ABBOTTABAD 216 in 61.5 overs (Saleh Mohammad 50 not out; Abdur Raheem 4-47).

At Bugti Stadium, Quetta:

HYDERABAD 212 in 69.5 overs (Shabih Hyder 69, Hasan Ali 48; Mohammad Irfan Sr 4-57) and 162-4 in 28 overs (Mohammad Azeem 94 not out); QUETTA 161 in 68.3 overs (Nadir Khan 87; Mohammad Sharif 4-44).

At Diamond Club Ground, Islamabad:

ISLAMABAD 242 in 81.5 overs (Umair Mir 56, Imad Wasim 49, Zahid Iqbal 44; Samiullah 4-36) and 0-1 in 0.4 over; RAWALPINDI 264 in 81.1 overs (Fawad Hussain 78, Umar Amin 56, Muzammil Nizam 45).
