RAWALPINDI, Sept 10: Even policemen could not help but shout “Nawaz Sharif Zindabad” slogans on knowing that the exiled former prime minister’s plane had landed at Islamabad airport Monday morning, Dawn has learnt.

“Yes, some people had done it and were heard by us,” an officer who spoke on condition of anonymity told this reporter.

According to him it was nothing less than a surprise when the slogans sounded on police wirelesses.

Sources said some policemen were taken into custody for questioning in connection with the outburst of emotions, however, there was an official denial of the internal interrogation.

A police official said that it would be impossible to trace the person who had raised the slogans, as additional police force had been called in from all over the Punjab province.—Staff Reporter
