Lawyers to observe strike today

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 10: The National Action Committee (NAC) of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Supreme Court Bar Association on Monday called for a countrywide lawyers’ strike on Tuesday to protest against the deportation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, placing of the Sindh High Court (SHC) premises in Karachi under a virtual state of siege and murder of a lawyer.

“We condemn the murder of Raja Riaz and the brutal assault on Mohammad Ali Abbasi, Advocate,” an announcement issued by the NAC said here on Monday.

“We condemn the disruption of the proceedings of the Sindh High Court and we once again reassure the people of Pakistan that we will remain committed to the struggle and bring it to its logical conclusion,” the statement said and appealed to all provincial bar councils and associations throughout the country for support.

Ali Ahmed Kurd, Syed Qalb-i-Hassan, Hamid Khan, Mohammad Kazim and Rasheed A Razvi, all members of the PBC, requested the legal community to observe the strike.
