PHC takes suo motu notice of schoolteacher’s killing

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Sept 10: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan

on Monday took suo motu notice of the killing of a schoolteacher by her husband for allegedly also issuing threats to his stepchildren.

The chief justice summoned the

station house officers (SHOs) of Faqirabad police station in Peshawar and Prang police station in Charsadda, directing them to appear with all relevant records on September 17.

The chief justice took the action after a news item appeared in a local newspaper on September 2.

Schoolteacher Azra Naheed was allegedly killed by her second husband, Wisal Shah, on June 23, 2007, in the jurisdiction of the Faqirabad police station. Azra was previously married to Zahid Iqbal, a resident of Charssada. A few years back Zahid died of cardiac arrest.

Since then, she had been living with her three children: Samiullah, Zeeshan and Komal.

Later, Azra’s family members persuaded her to marry Wisal who was already married and had six children. Initially, after their marriage the family had been living happily but soon their relations turned soar over the pension of her previous husband.

Azra’s children alleged that the accused had now been threatening them over the issue. They claimed that their step-father had been asking them to enter into a compromise with him otherwise they would be killed.

The children had requested the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court to provide them protection against the alleged killer, saying that despite the passing of more than two months, the police in Peshawar and Charsadda had failed to arrest Wisal who had been roaming around freely.
