KARACHI, Sept 10: On the successful completion of nine-month-long rigorous training, one thousand sailors were formally inducted into the Pakistan Navy in an impressive passing out ceremony held at PNS Himalaya.
Commander Karachi Rear Admiral Bakhtiar Mohsin reviewed the parade as the chief guest, says a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Monday.
Addressing the passing out sailors, he said Pakistan was faced with internal and external security threats.
It was, therefore, imperative to enhance defence capabilities and maintain minimum credible deterrence, he said, adding that the PN was equipping itself with the latest technology in order to effectively discharge its responsibilities.
He urged the sailors to fully exploit their energies and make the best use of available resources to safeguard nation’s maritime interests.
Extending his felicitations to the passing out sailors, the chief guest awarded prizes to those who had displayed outstanding performances during the training.
Rashid Raheem received a trophy for his best all round performance.
For the best Tech UT and Non-tech UT, Sadaqat Ali and Azhar Abbas were awarded the ComKar Gold Medal. Sharjeel received sports award and Vijay Kumar got a consolation prize. For overall best performance, the proficiency banner was won by Badr Squardon.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commanding Officer PNS Himalaya Capt Tanzeem Akhtar Qadri highlighted the salient features of the training.
A large number of naval officers, civil dignitaries and parents and relatives of the sailors attended the ceremony.—APP
