GUJRANWALA, Sept 9: Four outlaws were bumped off in as many encounters with the police in different cities of the province on Sunday.

In Gujranwala, the police killed proclaimed offender Naeem Butt in the gunplay.

Reports said the police intercepted the PO and his accomplices near a private hospital in Satellite Town when they were fleeing after snatching a car from Tanveer Ahmed of Kangrinwala. But the accused opened fire on law enforcers. In retaliation, absconder Naeem Butt was killed while his accomplices managed to escape.

DIG (operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti told reporters that Naeem Butt, involved in dozens of cases of murder, kidnap for ransom, killing of policemen and other heinous crimes, was the ringleader of the Nan-Goraya gang.

He said police recovered a rifle, cartridges and Rs5,000 in cash from beside the dead body.

The DIG announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the raiding party.

OKARA: An outlaw was killed while his three accomplices beat a retreat after a shootout with villagers and the police.

Reports said that four armed dacoits entered the house of Bashir Ahmed after scaling the boundary wall near village 43/3-R. Dozens of villagers gathered in no time outside the house when the watchman raised an alarm after seeing the outlaws. However, the dacoits managed to escape, but the villagers chased them. On being informed Okara Sadar DSP Younis also rushed to the spot along with a police contingent. In the crossfire, one dacoit was killed while his accomplices escaped in the darkness.

Police have shifted the body to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.

BAHAWALNAGAR: The police bumped off a dacoit in a gunplay near Muhammadpur Sansaran on Saturday night.

DPO Syed Zafar Abbas Bukhari told journalists that three gunmen had deprived Ayyaz and Faiz Ahmed of their motorcycle when they were going to Muhammadpur. Receiving information, a team of Ghumandpur police and elite force followed the bandits. Fearing their arrest, the outlaws fired at the police party. The police also returned the fire which resulted in the killing of a dacoit while his two accomplices made good their escape. The dead dacoit, who was later identified as Noor Aalam alias Aali, was wanted in 22 cases of heinous nature, including murder, dacoity and highway robbery.

The DPO said the police retrieved a rifle and several cartridges from the site.

FAISALABAD: The local police claimed to have killed a hardened criminal in an encounter late on Saturday night in Makoana.

A press release issued by the DIG (operations) office said that Tariq alias Tari of Chak 242-RB was involved in the killing of constable Abdul Hameed and injuring constable Muhammad Nawaz.

It said that on a tip-off police besieged the absconder and his accomplices near Chak 216-RB, Mohammadwala, but they opened fire which was returned. Resultantly, accused Tariq died on the spot while his collaborators escaped from the scene.

The release claimed that the dead absconder was involved in murder, dacoity, kidnapping and other heinous crimes.
