HYDERABAD: Mother’s plea

Published September 10, 2007

HYDERABAD, Sept 9: Thanking the chief justice of Pakistan for taking suo motu notice of the kidnapping of her three-day old baby, a woman has appealed to him to order that the accused woman may be remanded in police custody to ensure recovery of her baby.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday, Feroza said there was no mistake in the identity of the accused and added that it was Safia who had kidnapped Dua from Bhitai Hospital.

Safia was arrested in Karachi by the Hyderabad police and brought here for investigation. However, she was sent to the Hyderabad central jail since, according to a recent amendment to the relevant law, a woman cannot be remanded to police custody unless she is involved in murder or a dacoity case.
