DONCASTER (England), Sept 8: Britain’s Junior Witter knocked out American opponent Vivian Harris on Friday in Doncaster to retain his WBC light-welterweight crown.
The 33-year-old from England caught former WBA champion Harris with a thumping left hook one minute into the seventh round to leave his opponent on the canvas. Witter, unbeaten for seven years, outfoxed a disappointing Harris from the second round, landing a series of telling combinations and staying safely out of range.
In the fourth round Harris was twice on the floor. The first time it was adjudged by the referee to be a stumble but there was no doubting the big right hand that sent him down for a count of five shortly afterwards.—Reuters
