Centre for diabetics

FAISALABAD, Sept 8: The Allied Hospital will soon have a centre to treat diabetics.Dr Muhammad Irfan, one of incumbent of the centre, told Dawn on Thursday that diabetes was a serious chronic disease. In 2006, the global prevalence of the disease was estimated at 220 million and figure was projected to be around 368 million by 2030 as a consequence of longer life expectancy, changing lifestyle and dietary patterns.

He said in developing countries there were about 30 million diabetics, including 6.2 million Pakistanis. He said the rising trend of this disease had forced the administration to set up an independent centre in the hospital.— Staff Correspondent
