Suspected terrorist sent to Adiala Jail

By A Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Sept 8: An anti terrorism court (ATC) here on Saturday sent a man to the Adiala Jail for identification parade for suspected involvement in the two suicide bomb attacks on the convoy of President Pervez Musharraf on December 25, 2003.

ATC No. 1 Judge Habibur Rehman consented to the police demand for judicial remand of Rana Faqir, a resident of Faisalabad, and sent him to jail and deferred the case till September 22.According to the police, Faqir was arrested on August 20 for his alleged involvement in the 2003 suicide attacks on the presidential convoy that left 15 people dead. He was produced in the ATC on August 22 and was given in police custody.

The police claim that he had to ram the third explosives- laden vehicle into the president’s motorcade near the old jail chowk, but at the final moment he failed to get the car started and therefore had to abort

the mission.

Meanwhile, in a case related to the Lal Masjid, the judge served show-cause notice on a sub-inspector (SI) of the Aabpara police for not producing the record of the case.

The court was due to hold hearing in the alleged involvement of Humaira Rasheed, widow of Ghazi Abdul Rasheed, in the murder of a soldier of Pakistan Rangers on July 3.

During the last hearing, SI Zawar Hussain was asked to produce the record but he remained absent on Saturday. The judge adjourned the hearing till September 10.

According to a press release, a killer will be hanged in the Central Jail Adiala on Tuesday.

Mazhar Ali, a resident of Rasheed Colony in Sadiqabad, was booked on the charges of murder on September 26, 1996, by the Civil Lines police. An anti terrorism court in Rawalpindi awarded him death sentence on two counts, and all his appeals for clemency were dismissed.
