KARACHI, Sept 8: The Adviser to Chief Minister on Home Affairs, Waseem Akhtar, on Saturday paid a surprise visit to Malir District Jail and ordered suspension of three absenting Assistant Jail Superintendents and three clerks.
The adviser checked the attendance register and showed displeasure over the absent officials. He suspended the assistants, Gul Mohammed Shaikh, Shakeel Arbab and Abdul Khaliq Ansari, and clerks Naveed Babu, Asif and Amir Baig.
Waseem Akhtar also met prisoners in the Bund Ward and talked to them. They complained that they were being kept in the ward. He directed the superintendent to shift them to other wards.
A prisoner, Akhtar, son of Saleh Mohammed, complained that he was put behind the bars after a quarrel with former Lyari Town Nazim late Abdul Khaliq Jumma four years ago. He said he had no money to hire a lawyer or deposit for bail. The adviser asked the superintendent to arrange a lawyer and bail for the prisoner.—APP
