Police pick up 300 PML-N workers

SIALKOT, Sept 7: The Punjab police intensified its crackdown on PML-N on Friday and picked up more than 300 leaders and workers from different parts of the province.

The number of arrests in Sialkot and Narowal was 113. Among the arrested was former PML-N MPA Muhammad Ashfaq Wyne.

KASUR: At least 60 PML-N workers and office-bearers were arrested in the district while police registered cases against 250 others under the 16-MPO.

Reports said more than 50 workers were arrested by the Chunnian police, while the Kanganpur police captured four.

Similarly, the Pattoki police apprehended town’s PML-N president Muhammad Iqbal Butt.

The Kasur police also registered cases against 250 workers and office-bearers, including PML-N district nazim Rana Muhammad Hayat, city vice-president Rana Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Ishaq.

BAHAWALPUR: As many as nine activists and office-bearers of the PML-N were arrested in the district.

Among them were Bahawalpur’s labour wing president Ghulam Nabi and PML city president Malik Ijaz Channar.

GUJRANWALA: More than 50 workers and leaders of the PML-N, including union council nazim Ashraf and former nazims, were arrested in Gujranwala.

Police also raided the residences of former federal minister Ghulam Dastagir Khan, former provincial education minister Usman Ibrahim, City PML-N president Rauf Mughal and others, but they could not be arrested as they have already gone underground.

FAISALABAD: Scores of PML-N leaders and ticket holders were arrested in the presence of MNA Raja Nadir Pervaiz, MPA and deputy opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Rana Sanaullah and Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed.

They had come to get released city president Khawaja Muhammad Islam when police arrested them.

Those arrested included, Shehbaz Kissana, former MPA Rana Mohammad Afzal, Zulfiqar Inayat, Mian Irfan Ahmed, district secretary-general Javed Niaz, Rana Idrees Ahmed, Haider Kharal, Sikandar Hayat, Aftab Akbar.

SAHIWAL: Eight PML-N workers and leaders were arrested from their houses in Sahiwal. Police also misbehaved with women inmates.

Those arrested were: Noorshah UC nazim Pir Muhammad Shah, Maj Tahir Akbar (retired), district ulema wing president Mumtaz Shahid Bhatti, tehsil vice-president Ghulam Abbas Bagiana, city president Ikramul Haq Bhatti, Sheikh Abdul Ghani, Shakeel Bhatti and Shahzad Ahmed.

MUZAFFARGARH: PML-N’s Kot Addu president Tariq Hunjra was arrested from Daira Din Panah.

In Muzaffargarh, police arrested senior party member Raziq Khan from his house.

In Alipur, City and Sadar police stations took four PML-N activists into custody.

MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Police arrested party’s Phalia president Chaudhry Islamuddin, tehsil vice-president Waheed Gondal, district additional secretary Zulfikar Ahmed Warraich, activist Bab Niaz Ali and MMA district leader and JI city amir Rashid Shahid.

LAYYAH: The local police detained 11 PML-N leaders and activists, including Rana Muhammad Sarwar from Fatehpur, Dr Muzzamil Hussain from Kot Sultan, Ghulan Shabbir, Haji Muhammad Aslam, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Asif and Tariq Randhawa from Chowk Azam, and Muhammad Hussain from Choubara.

OKARA: The local police arrested former MNA Rao Qaiser Ali Khan and PML-N district general-secretary Syed Zahid Hussain Gillani, Syed Ali Hasnain Kirmani, Deepalpur city nazim Chaudhry Kamran Shafique, UC nazim Mirza Ali Raza, activists Ismail Goga, Muhammad Younis Liaquat, Asghar and Shafi.

MULTAN: Five PML-N activists were taken into custody here. They included Tariq Naeemullah, Ejaz Gulzar Chattan, Muhammad Asif, Sheikh Younis and Sheikh Liaqat.

Meanwhile, a court bailiff recovered Shahid Mehmood, who joined PML-N a week ago after deserting the ruling party, after raiding Kotwali police station.

Mirza Muhammad Ali, Regional Police Officer, confirmed the arrest of 30 PML-N activists from six districts of region — Multan, Sahiwal, Vehari, Lodhran, Khanewal and Pakpattan
