HARIPUR : Workshop held for women prisoners

By Our Correspondent

HARIPUR, Sept 7: A two-day training workshop for women prisoners at the Haripur central prison concluded on Friday.

The event was organised by the Human Development Organization (HDO).

SSP Malik Fakhr-e-Alam, DSP Sheesh Khan and ASP Fozia Naz Ealhi were among the participants.

Resource persons informed the prisoners about the description of an appeal and different forums that could be approached for filing the appeal.

They answered questions of participants, particularly regarding appeal matters and appellant courts.

The resource persons told the participants that the HDO was, apart from giving non formal education to women prisoners, imparting training on appeal writing so that they could write appeals not only for themselves but also for fellow prisoners without relying on external sources.

HDO assistant project coordinator Fozia Aziz said that the organisation had been working for the last one year at the women section of Haripur jail in partnership with the CHIP Islamabad.

The project tilted “Legal & non-formal education” aimed at enhancing the self respect of women offenders.

The project encompassed making women offenders aware of the law of arrest and detention, secure them from every kind of torture and abuse, reduce period of detention and provide their accompanying children with educational and entertainment facilities.
